OLD DOMINION SECTION

2002 Career Day Activities

Career Day Highlights

The Old Dominion Section jumped into the 2002 Engineers Week activities by particpating in activities on Career Day, February 25, 2002 at the Science Museum of Virginia. This was an excellent opportunity to make contact with middle school and high school age youths from the greater Richmond metro area and discuss highways and transportation and the wide variety of exciting opportunities available in our industry.

As part of the Old Dominion Section's exhibition during Career Day, VDOT displays were used in explaining "How A Road is Built", Photogrammetry Photo viewing, "Women In Engineering" and a static three dimensional display of a road. We also sponsored a "ZOOM Into Engineering" Hoop Glider activity. Volunteers for this event did an outstanding job supervising the displays, building hoop gliders, and talking about how important transportation is to our way of life.

A big THANK YOU goes out to the volunteers for Career Day listed below who made this event a resounding success!

Robert A. Donovan - ASHE Career Day Committee Chairman
Regina Moore
Adrienne Belcher
Cara Simpson
Nancy Kalousdian
Tal Wingate
Steve Hicks
Bruce McCloy
Bob Gallagher
Dwayne Wohnig

We would also like to thank Lin Heath of VDOT's Public Affairs, Graphic Section, for making the displays available.

This was the first time we have participated in this endeavor and it was undoubtedly a resounding success due to VDOT's support and the commitment of the volunteers to participate in a truly rewarding activity.
